SEBASTIAN CHARTER JUNIOR HIGH
UNIFORM POLICY AND CONTRACT

DESCRIPTION OF THE UNIFORM:

1. Pants/Skirts/Shorts: Boys: Tan or navy pants or shorts (Bermuda or golf shorts).  The school staff will post approved brands and styles.  Girls: Tan or navy skirts, skorts, pants, or shorts. Pants, skirts, skorts, Capris and shorts must fit at the waist and be made of cotton, non-stretch material.  No beltless pants or jeans or jumpers are allowed.  Pants may not drag the ground. Skirts, skorts, and shorts may be no shorter than the tip of the middle finger and should not be "skin tight" or made of stretch material. Capri pants may be worn as long as they are not "skin tight" or made of stretch material.
2. Shirts: A burgundy, white, or navy polo shirt with the school logo affixed will be worn in the classroom. The gray SCJH t-shirt may be worn on scheduled PE days. ALL shirts must be tucked in and sized to fit.  Shirts must be long enough to remain tucked in when the student reaches his/her arms into the air. (i.e. IZOD) not too form fitting!
3. Undershirts: If an undershirt is worn it must be white.
4. Belts: A plain black or brown belt must be worn. NO big buckles, studs, glitter, decorative metal holes or designs may be worn. 
5. Socks: Plain white socks only shall be worn.
6. Shoes: White or Black plain sneakers only. (Sneakers meaning shoes as worn to play basketball or running).  Students must wear sneakers at all times.  No backless shoes, boots, sandals or hard top shoes may be worn.    No different colored sneakers are allowed except on dress down day!  Sneakers only are allowed on dress down day.
7. Sweaters or jackets: A plain burgundy, white, or navy sweater or jacket may be worn in the classroom.  The only logo allowed is the school logo.  A sweatshirt in these colors may be worn but MUST have a school logo on it. Every student is required to have a uniform sweatshirt or jacket to be worn in the classroom if necessary.  
8. Jewelry: Watches only. Girls may wear one pair of stud earrings. This means no loop earrings! Boys may not wear earrings.  A single necklace with noted personal significance may be worn on the inside of the shirt only.  The school assumes no liability for personal items.
9. Make-up:   No make-up including eye shadow, glitter or lipstick shall be worn.  No make-up, perfume or hairspray is allowed at school.  Any of these items will be confiscated. Eighth grade girls only may wear pastel fingernail polish and lip gloss.  Wearing inappropriate colored fingernail polish or wearing nail polish by any other students may result in the student being given detention. 
10. Hair:  Hair, including facial hair, shall be neatly trimmed and well groomed.  Unnatural hair coloring is prohibited.  No "Mohawks" or hairstyles, which are distracting to other students, as defined by the principal are allowed. 
11. Hats:  Students may not wear hats inside the school.  Hats may be worn outside in conjunction with P. E. only. 
12. Sunglasses:  Sunglasses may not be worn inside the school building.  Sunglasses may be worn outside in conjunction with P. E. only.
13. Students will remain in school uniform while on school grounds unless instructed otherwise or given permission to change by school staff.

Dress Down Days:  Jewelry, make-up, hair and hat rules remain in effect even on dress down days when uniforms do not have to be worn.  Students may wear "regular" clothes as long as shoulders and stomachs are covered.  Pants must be worn at the waist.  Dresses, skirts, and shorts must be down to the tip of the middle finger.  No short shorts may be worn on dress down days.  No vulgar or inappropriate sayings on shirts are allowed.  No low cut blouses are allowed. Regular school sneakers must be worn on dress down days.

The school staff shall have the authority to judge whether or not the appearance of any student is in compliance with the uniform contract of the school or not.  Students who repeatedly violate the uniform policy may be sent home. Violation of any of these rules may result in demerits or other disciplinary actions and being required to "fix" the violation. 

There is NO Dress Down for a student who is serving after-school detention or in-school suspension).*
